La Clusaz has a variety of walks and hikes for all levels. One family hike in La Clusaz is perfect for a day’s outing, and accommodates all ages and levels. You can even stop for lunch, or stay the night, at the Refuge de la Bombardellaz, located midway through the hike.
Total distance: 7.5 km
Difficulty: easy (mostly)
Views: stunning
Start at the parking located past the Lac des Confins (on the eastern edge of La Clusaz, past the Balme area of the ski resort). The wide, easy trail heads left into the Aravis range where in summer you are likely to pass grazing cows.

As the trail heads into forest, the views of the rocky peaks of the Aravis mountains are stunning.
The trails are well marked and easy for all ages, with a few challenges along the way.
Halfway through the hike, you will reach the Refuge de la Bombardellaz. It’s a lovely refuge which can sleep 32 people. If you plan to have lunch or spend the night, it’s necessary to make a reservation. The food is rustic, but excellent. The views into the valley are amazing, particularly the sunsets on a clear evening. The patio is perfect for enjoying a nice meal and the spectacular views. If the weather is clear, it’s really worth spending the night. Dinner and breakfast are included (make sure to ask).
From the Refuge, head up the hill into the forest. The trail will loop up slightly rougher terrain before heading back downhill towards the starting point. The walk takes you slightly above the tree line, exposing fields of wildflowers and stunning rock formations.
You finally rejoin the initial trail by the Chalet de Paccaly and finish with an easy walk back to the car park.
